The World University Speed Skating Championship came to an end at the Ice Rink Piné. All our gratitude to the volunteers. A week of great sport, friendship and culture for more than a hundred university athletes coming from 13 different Nations (Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, China, Chinese Taipei, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and the USA).
The World University Speed Skating Championship came to an end at the Ice Rink Piné.
From Thursday the 3 of March to Sunday the 6 of March, the athletes competed in the rich programme of the (FISU) World University Speed Skating Championship. The main international event on the Piné Oval has been organised by the experienced Organizing Committee, led by Enrico Colombini and the organisers Luca De Carli and Nicola Condini, that could count on more than a hundred of local volunteers working at the Ice Rink Piné for over a week of captivating sport and amazing events. “We are very satisfied with the results we obtained that confirm the level of world excellence of our track and of our team organising skills-affirmed the Competition Manager Luca De Carli. We want to thank particularly our team of more than a hundred volunteers of Circolo Pattinatori Piné, Piné Motori and many other local associations, who made a great effort during the 5 days of competitions and made the races possible even if the weather was not on our side. The live on Eurosport, of the 3 of March and the the pre-recorded broadcast of the 6 of March, broadcasted this great event of International Speed Skating and gave great worldwide exposure to Piné.
More than 6 million spectators (out of Italy) appreciated not only the competitions but also the breath-taking scenery of our Altopiano di Piné.”
For the first time in Italy, the third edition of the World University Speed Skating Championship, came to an end with the great success of the Organising Committee and the Italian team, led by the coach Enrico Fabris, that dominates the table of medals with seven gold medals, followed by Japan (2 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze), Poland ( 2 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze) and China (2 gold).

Today, Sunday 6 March, there were the closing day of the 3rd FISU World University Speed Skating Championship, that took place for the first time in Italy at the Ice Rink Pinè (Baselga di Pinè).
From the 3rd to the 6th of March more than 100 athletes competed on the 3rd FISU World University Speed Skating Championship with 13 Nations.
In the last day the Italian Team, led by the coach Enrico Fabris, won other 2 gold medals in the Man 500m (Giacomo Mirko Nenzi) and in the Mass Start (Riccardo Bugari).
In the Ladies 500m the gold medal has been won by the Chinese Quishi Li, followed by the two Japanese skaters, Tsujimoto (2nd place) and Takahashi (3rd place). For the Man 500m the race was dominated by Giacomo Mirko Nenzi (35.946 and 35.826 his time) in front of the Chinese Taipei skater Ching-Yang Sung and the Japanese Yuto Fujino.
In the evening, Mass Start competitions began. The Ladies Mass Start has been awarded to the Dutch skaters Annemarie Boer (1st place) and Jessica (Jacoba Elise) Merkens (3rd place), and the second place has been won by the Russian Olesya Chernega.
The Man Mass Start gave the last Italian satisfaction with the victory of Riccardo Bulgari followed by the Austrian Armin Siegfried Hager and the Polish Marcin Bachanek.

The 3rd FISU World University Speed Skating Championship has also shown the organizational success of the organizing committee chaired by Enrico Colombini and coordinators Luca De Carli and Nicola Condini, which could rely to more than 100 local volunteers at the Ice Rink Pinè for a whole week of great sport and entertainment .

Two gold medals for Italy (Davide Ghiotto and Team Sprint).
For the first time in Italy, the competitions of the (FISU) World University Speed Skating Championship, that are taking place at the Ice Rink Pinè (Baselga di Pinè), are not over yet. The snow, which fell heavily in Altopiano di Pinè, has been the main character during the third day of competitions. Even yesterday Italy was the protagonist of the competition conquering two gold medals in the Men 10,000 meters (Davide Ghiotto) and in the exciting Team Sprint.
More than a hundred athletes, coming from 13 Nations (Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, China, Chinese Taipei, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and the USA) applied for the third edition of the World University Speed Skating Championship with an entire week of competitions and events featuring the university athletes of all over the World.
From the early morning the snow was falling heavily, forcing the outstanding volunteers of the Organizing Committee, led by Enrico Colombini and by the organizers Luca De Carli and Nicola Condini, to an endless work.
In the first race (Ladies 1,000 meters) the Chinese athlete Qishi Li (1:20.33) won the gold medal followed by Arisa Tsujimoto from Japan and Olesya Chernega from Russia.
In the Men 10,000 meters the Italian athlete Davide Ghiotto (who changed the roller skates for the ice skates) conquered the gold medal (13:47.71) and its personal best. Second place for Ryosuke Tsuchiya from Japan (14:09.98) and third place for Linus Michael Heidegger (14:21.56).
In the Ladies 5,000 meters gold medal for the Japanese athlete Nana Takahashi (7:39.15) and silver and bronze medal for the Polish athletes Magdalena Czyszcon and Angelika Fudalej.
Second gold medal of the day for Italy (Mirko Giacomo Nenzi, Cristian Sartorato and Alessio Trentini) in the Team Sprint (1:22.79) followed by Poland and Russia.
In the Ladies Team Sprint first place for Russia (1:35.05), second place for Poland and third place for the Netherlands.
After three days of competitions first place for Italy in the table of medals of the World University Speed Skating Championship with 5 gold medals, followed by Poland (2 gold,4 silver, 3 bronze) and Japan (2 gold and 5 silver).
Today is the great finale of the (FISU) World University Speed Skating Championship. From 16.00 Men and Ladies 500 meters and the Mass Start. At 19.30 the Closing Ceremony at the Ice Rink Pinè will start.

Second day of competitions of the World University Speed Skating Championship at the Ice Rink Pinè.
Thursday night ended with a gold medal in the Team Pursuit and today other two victories with Davide Ghiotto and Mirko Nenzi.
Baselga di Pinè: The sun was setting and the night was falling, the cold was an enemy but they did not care. International athletes were focused, motivated, and ready on the starting blocks. Nothing could stop them.
They skated and skated, even if they were tired and their legs were abandoning them because the finish line was their goal. In this way the second day of competitions of the World University Speed Skating Championship, at the Ice Rink Piné, started. Main victory for the Italian Team, led by Enrico Fabris, that won the first race (Men 5,000 meters) with Davide Ghiotto (Noale) who recorded the best time (5:42.21). Second place for the Japanese athlete Ryosuke Tsuchiya (5:44.17) and third place for the Polish athlete Adrian Wielgat (6:49.07). 5th place for the other Italian athlete Riccardo Bugari (Cp Pinè) and 7th place for Daniel NIero.
The winner of the Ladies 1,500 meters was Katarzyna Wozniak from Poland (2:02.72), silver medal for the Japanese athlete Nana Takahashi (2:03.09), gold in the Ladies 3,000 meters, and bronze medal for the Russian athlete Olesya Chernega (2:05.37). 14th place for Linda Bortolotti (CP Pinè), 17th place for Giulia Lollobrigida (Air Force) and 19th place for Laura De Candido (Pieve di Cadore).
Another success for the Italian Team in the Men 1,000 meters in which Giacomo Mirko Nenzi (Fiamme Gialle) got the god medal and the best time (1:11.40). Silver medal for Yuto Fujino (1:11.53) from Japan and bronze medal for Konrad Nagy (1:11.97) from Hungary. 8th place for Alessio Trentini (VG Pergine) and 19th place for Cristian Sartorato.
Last night, in the last competition of the day, the victory of the Ladies Team Pursuit went to the Polish Team (3:13.70) followed by the Netherlands (3:17.57) and Russia (3:19.42). 4th place for the Italian Team (Bortolotti, Lollobrigida and De Candido).
Today from 18.00, under a white scenery, Ladies 1,000 meters, Men 10,000 meters, Ladies 5,000 meters, Men Team Sprint and Ladies Team Sprint.

BASELGA DI PINÈ: yesterday 03.03.2016, the Ice Rink Pinè, was theatre of the first official competitions of the (FISU) World University Speed Skating Championship.
Neither the wind nor the cold stopped athletes having a great, fair and successful competition. A fairy-tale atmosphere covered the Ice Rink. The 13 Nations competed in the oval ring, surrounded by the snow.
Not only headlights focused on the races. FISU Executive Committee, Team leaders and local Honorary Members were cheering on their Nations.
Live on Eurosport, the athletes competed in the 1,500 meters Men, in the 3,000 meters Ladies and in the Team Pursuit.
The Hungarian athlete Konrad Nagy won the 1,500-meter race with a time of 1:51.22, second place for Linus Michael Heidegger from Austria (1:52.07) and third place for Adrian Wielgat (1:52.19) from Poland. As for Italy, 8th place for Giacomo Mirko Nenzi (Fiamme Gialle) and 9th place for Alessio Trentini while Davide Ghiotto and Riccardo Bugari reached the 13th and the 18th place.
In the Ladies 3,000 meters gold medal for the Japanese athlete Nana Takahashi (4:24.16), silver medal for the Polish athlete Urzula Wlodarczyk (4:29.66) and bronze medal for Willemijn Cnossen (4:30.83) from the Netherlands. 11th place for the only Italian athlete Giulia Lollobrigida.
Main results for the Italian team, featuring Davide Ghiotto, Riccardo Bugari and Alessio Trentini, in the Team Pursuit. The Italian Team with a time of 3:57.82 conquered the eight lapses pursuit race and the gold medal. Second place for Poland (4:03.05) and third place for Russia (4:06.61).
The other races will take place until Sunday the 6th of March from 16.00 to 21.00 (in order to take advantage of the ice best conditions).

Technical meeting – 2016.03.02
The 3rd World University Speed Skating Championships started yesterday, the 2nd of March, at the Ice Rink Pinè, Italy. More than a hundred athletes coming from 14 Nations (Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, China, Chinese Taipei, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Russia and USA) will compete in this long track competition until the 6th of March.
In the afternoon, the Teamleaders meeting hold in “Centro Congressi Piné 1000”. The FISU Organizing Committee presented the agenda to the Teamleaders of Nations. Mr.Fritz Holzer, Emeritius Honorary Member of FISU, wished a good luck to the participants and hoped that the event will held in a good, fair and academic atmosphere.
Opening Ceremony – 2016.03.02
The World University Speed Skating Championships had its Opening Ceremony at the Ice Rink Pine, Italy. In spite of the rain and the wind, many local spectators joined the ceremony. Mr. Enrico Colombini (President of the Organizing Committee) held the opening speech, together with Fritz Holzer (Emeritius Honorary Member of FISU), the Major of Baselga di Pinè and Mr. Paolo Collini (Rector of the University of Trento).
The ceremony saw all countries participated in the traditional march pass and accompanied by performances from the local band.
Today the competition will proceed with the 1500m Men, 3000m Ladies and the Team Pursuit Men at 20.00 at the Ice Rink Piné.
